Teach Them Diligently - by Lou Priolo

This book follows the usual Proverbs-heavy formula we've become accustomed to with these babywhipping books - whacking kids with sticks to get instant obedience. But also for anger, complaining, disrespect, selfishness, and worry! This book even suggests spanking children right up until, and including, adulthood:

"You'll not be able to
spank
your children indefinitely. Someday, when they are grown, you will have to rely solely on the Bible to impact your children--you'll have to treat them as adults. But until then both the rod and reproof will be necessary. It is interesting to note that fools will always (even when they are adults) require some kind of physical punishment to get their attention." p.95-96

On p. 97 Priolo writes "Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. The more your child manifests these foolish responses to reproof, the more necessary it may be for you to rely on the rod to drive such foolishness from him."

Spanking is especially encouraged for young children: "Spanking, especially for younger children, probably should not be replaced often with other forms of punishment when children commit deliberate acts of disobedience." p.99

Here are a couple other excerpts, scary and weird!

Children are to be "convicted" and punished if they disobey by "sinning against God" even for arguing or complaining:
"You may not argue or complain when you don't like your breakfast."
"You may not argue or complain when you have to stop playing."
"You may not argue or complain when you are told to go to bed."
"You may not argue or complain when you are told to do your homework."
"You may not argue or complain when your will conflicts with the Lord's."
p.15

p. 20 "To illustrate the impact of milieu teaching, I sometimes liken the heart of a child to a smooth non-porous surface such as a table top. My goal as a teacher is to have the child absorb as much of what I'm teaching as possible. If I were to pour the water of the Word onto that smooth surface, most of it would run off. But if I drilled hundreds of tiny holes in that surface (so that by the time I finished drilling it would be as porous as a sponge), then the water would be thoroughly absorbed into the table. Teaching in the milieu (showing how the Scriptures relate to the issues of actual life circumstances) is tantamount to drilling those tiny holes."  Drilling holes in children's hearts??? What ghastly imagery!!!
